HBO has posted the first episode of Sorkin’s divisive new show online in full. It’s not embeddable though, so you’ll have to click through to watch.
I’m not posting this because it’s The Newsroom on YouTube. I didn’t watch The Newsroom and I’m not particularly interested in what Warren Ellis called Studio 60: Part 2.
I’m posting this because HBO put the first episode of a new series on YouTube in its entirety, and that is a very big deal. I’m sure it’s region-locked, which is stupid (and easily circumvented) but it’s such a great step in the right direction for the network, we should give HBO a pizza trophy.
I’m posting this because it’s The Newsroom on YouTube AND because HBO put the first episode of a new series on YouTube in its entirety. Online video has a massive impact on entertainment these days, and it appears HBO is one of the first traditional media outlets to accept that.
I’m posting this as a reminder to myself to watch it. Now if only HBO would do this with episodes of Game of Thrones so I wouldn’t have to find ways to watch it without subscribing for digital copies through iTunes or getting my parents to purchase an HBO package … just so I could watch Game of Thrones.
